A Vintage Wedding.

The story starts with an old school friend,, who I didn't have too much to do with at school, the odd hello and a few classes together But who knew our paths would cross again and that I would be taking part in one of the biggest days of her life!! Her WEDDING !!

And oh,, I am so glad that we did meet again! I have a love for everything vintage especially when it comes to vintage weddings!! Elegant yet fun,, pretty yet quirky,, some old mixed with new,, the thing I love most is you cant really get it wrong !!

Facebook was our main source of contact ,, and so messages and ideas flew back and forth ,, and amazingly our taste for all things wedding were very much alike !!
A dream client ?? Yes sir !!

The planning Begins !!

Engagement shoot.

My first job ,, to make cute cupcakes for a sailing themed photo shoot with the amazing Lavara Photography !!

Macaroon Favors :

My next task ... To make French Macaroon favors!! Each Favor would consist of two macaroons one pink and one creamy. Wrapped in a plain cellophane bag with a custom made tag and tied with matching bakers twine. FLAVOR Vanilla bean with white chocolate Ganache !

Many pretty Macaroons , Made with the amazing Heilala Vanilla

The Cake :

So where to start ?? Emma wanted a cake to suit the theme ,, so nothing to over the top, maybe some lace , or a few fresh flowers,, the main thing it had to be stunning when it was cut ! She wanted the WOW factor and so we found the perfect thing OMBRE !And what other shades other than pink!! It was settled a fluffy Vanilla bean cake made with the amazing Heilala Vanilla!! But what wedding cake is complete without a bit of mud action ?? Dark chocolate mud that is ,, finished with a white chocolate ganache so even when cut it will look that little bit different. So with the inside sorted we just had to think of the outside ,, the finishing touches,, BUNTING ,, Emma found some very cute handmade paper bunting online and left the rest up to me,, so i had bunting white fondant ,,that was it ,,, and to me it just didn't look quite yet "Vintage" and "wedding" enough! This moment is when the ruffle was created. Finally after months of planning (oh and i forgot to mention taste testing, where i just had to do a trial run of the ombre effect (left nude - no icing)to show the lovely tasters what it would look like too. ) My masterpiece was done !!

Cutting the cake :

I arrive onsite with my trusty helper and cake carrier !! And WOW how stunning did Emma's Nana's Garden look!! A perfect setting for my cake I thought ;)
So we set it up and my job is done !! All we need now is for the bride and groom to cut it ! With Lavara having to leave before the cutting we decide to do a fake one just for the photos. And then place it back in for the wow factor later ... SHHHHHH secret squirrels.
Lavara Photography hard at work.

Did it get the WOW ....??? Yes it did !! thank goodness all those hours of planning baking and decorating pay off all in that moment !!

So in a nut shell ......

An amazing day ,, amazing experience,, awesome opportunity and the best client anyone could ask for !!

A beautiful day for a beautiful Mr and Mrs !!!

3 orders - 1 weekend = awesome fun !!

Another busy weekend for me .. 2 cakes and one batch of macaroons and the best thing is rave reviews from all 3 clients !! Oh how I love good feedback :)

My first for the weekend was a spiderman cake for a lil dudes 4th birthday - I love doing the kids cakes.

Second was a 21st cake and one that I could really sink my teeth into !! Hand painted custom made cake board! Hand made 21 to suit the sparkly star shoots and a fondant covered chocolate cake! Gotta love a good challenge !

And the third a batch or French macaroons for a baby shower, pink being raspberry and green Vanilla bean , both filled with white chocolate ganache !

Glad my lovely customers enjoyed every bite !! I must be doing something
Right :) X

Eli's 1st Birthday / Rainbow Party :

The rainbow party,, This all took place last summer!! As Mr Eli decided to arrive on Christmas eve 2010 we had the perfect time of year for an outdoor sunny party.

I had already been doing cakes for family and friends, playing around with decoration techniques and new flavors. So I decided it was time to up my game. After following other party planning blogs I came across the rainbow idea and this sparked my curiosity into everything rainbow,, OH MY how many nights I lay in bed thinking of all things rainbow !!! And how many hours sitting on google and Pintrest getting ideas to tweak and make my own.
Everything was to theme,, invites went out ,, and costumes were made,, Eli being a rainbow striped clown and Eve a rainbow Fairy of course.
Then it was the party table, Rainbow jelly, Rainbow chocolate crackles, Rainbow cupcakes and the list goes on. The hit of the day had to be the cake.
The 7 layered rainbow cake ! It was a coconut cream cake with coconut marshmallow frosting. I must admit to this day this cake is still one of my Fave's !
How cool it was to cut into it with all the kids standing around to reveal a rainbow inside !!!
